WARFEST.COM ORANGE COUNTY LAUNCH FESTIVAL AT HOUSE OF BLUES ANAHEIM AT DOWNTOWN DISNEY MAY 20, 2012

Coming Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 3pm, WARFEST.COM is launching the annual online worldwide music competition at The House of Blues in Anaheim, CA.  The event will feature legendary national bands THE DICKIES, THE BRIGGS and The UNTOUCHABLES plus local greats on the Mohawk Stage and local singer songwriter performances on the Rose Terrace and an art show by world famous artist DANO and Tom Cruz.  This show can be heard on the Complete Control Radio show on 98.7 this Saturday from 10PM-12AM and on Clutchradio.com on Wednesday.  Rock N Roll Industries Magazine and Punkworldviews.org will be in attendance doing interviews and taking pictures at the event.

ABOUT WARFEST.COM

THE MOHAWK STAGE   
Part of the committment of Warfest is to assist hard working musicians build their fan base. along With support of The Anaheim House of Blues, Warfest has put together a great lineup of local and national musicians from all over Southern California.  The Mohawk stage consists of Rodents of Unusual Size (Orange), Loose Nuts (Oceanside), FOA (San Diego), The Yeastie Boys featuring Casey "Clowny" Royer (Orange County), Knocked Out Cold (Orange), Amerikan Made (Huntington Beach), The Untouchables (Los Angeles), The Briggs (Los Angeles) and The Dickies (Los Angeles).

THE DICKIES
The Dickies were among the first punk rock bands to emerge from Los Angeles, appear on network television and be signed to a major record label (A&M Records).  The Dickies' style is fun and humorous with lots of stage props.  They sometimes opened for The Ramones in venues especially on the East coast, such as CBGB’s in NYC and across the river at "The Showplace" in Dover, NJ (1978).  This Eastern blitz made them a punk band of national recognition coming from the L.A. Scene.  The Dickies are popular in the United Kingdom, and had a Top 10 single with "Banana Splits (Tra La La Song)" in 1979.  Many of their lyrics concern Southern California culture, rife with references and in-jokes; examples include songs like "Waterslide", "I'm A Cholo", "Manny, Moe, and Jack", and "I'm Stuck in a Pagoda with Tricia Toyota". They are also known for recording several fast-paced punk covers of classic rock songs, including the Moody Blues' "Nights in White Satin", Black Sabbath's "Paranoid", The Monkees' "She", Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction", and the Isley Brothers' "Nobody but Me".  In 1988, the Dickies wrote and performed the theme music for the horror film Killer Klowns from Outer Space which was the debut of drummer Cliff Martinez who had recently played with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Weirdos, and Captain Beefheart. Martinez played with them from 1988 to 1994.  In 1990, the Dickies wrote the theme song for Lucas Reiner's comedy film Spirit of 76.

THE BRIGGS
The Briggs' combustible energy has been a standout on the Warped Tour and on tours with bands as diverse as Tiger Army, The Casualties and Flogging Molly. The variety of audiences they can play in front of (both nationally and globally) is indicative of The Briggs' spirit and vision: that music should have no limits and that a truly great band plays what they feel is right, regardless of genre.  "The Briggs are for anyone. We want the world to hear what we have to say."  The Briggs, who’s song "This is L.A." was chosen to be the official pre-game anthem for The Los Angeles Kings Hockey Team.  It is also no surprise that the motto of the L.A. Kings is "Pride-Passion-Power", three traits that that The Briggs poses as a band and as individuals.  The Briggs have decided to come out of hiatus to perform at this special event at the HOB.

THE UNTOUCHABLES
The Untouchables are a ska/punk/ soul band from the Silver Lake, Los Angeles, California area.  They formed in 1981 as part of the embryonic L.A. mod revival.  After a shaky start playing at parties, the integrated septet were eventually booked at the O.N. Klub (known as the On to regulars). The band had guaranteed the club that they would pack the venue, and they did not disappoint. In the middle of that year, they released their first 7" single, copies of which were snapped up by local mods. The Untouchables originally played covers such as "We Ain't Got Nothing Yet" (Blues Magoos), "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" (Small Faces) and "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" (Monkees) in addition to their own songs.  Late in 1982, the band began a stint as the house band at the Roxy Theatre. Their second single, "The General," became a minor local hit, despite poor distribution. The band performed "The General" in the 1984 comedy The Party Animal, and they appeared as a scooter gang in the movie Repo Man. In early 1984, they were signed to Stiff Records.  Concerts with The B-52's, Black Uhuru, Bow Wow Wow, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fishbone, No Doubt and X all over California gave the group a diverse following of whites, blacks, mods, punks, surfers and rockabilly fans, with the local performances drawing up to 1,500 people. The band also appeared in the 1984 film Surf II, performing "Dance Beat", and 1987's No Man's Land, performing "What's Gone Wrong".

ROSE TERRACE   
Warfest has put together a great lineup of local musicians and singer songwriters to perform on the Rose Terrace at The HOB alongside the art show and bar.  The musicians include: 13 and Nine, Ascent, Anthony Spirito, Ebony Phaire, Briana Marie, Erik Anders, Paige Underwood and Jake Hitt/Bubba Lee.

Dano’s unique combination of cinematic style and storytelling captures the essence of each character in a backdrop rich with visual cues and eye candy.  As an Emmy award winning story board artist who has worked for Warner Bros and Walt Disney Studios, Dano knows how to transcend styles and themes.  Dano’s paintings have graced the lobbies of movie studios, recording studios, night clubs, luxury vacation properties, featured at The Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas and have captured the attention of Hugh Hefner, James Gandolfini and Robbie Kneival with personal portraits.

Tom Cruz is an artist, curator and graphic designer with an emphasis in color theory. I LOVE bright, bold and contrasting colors. I started drawing as a kid whenever I got in trouble (which was often, I got A LOT of drawing done) and developed a great love for art. I am self-taught and have been painting for over a decade. My artwork has been on display in many group and solo exhibitions all throughout Southern California as well as online, on clothing, and on many found objects.
